Buying Kulolo on Oʻahu: Individual Servings, Pounds & Catering

Kulolo is a traditional Hawaiian dessert made from kalo (taro), coconut milk, and sugar. At Waiāhole Poi Factory, we steam our kulolo for 24 hours and offer different ways to enjoy it, whether you're looking for a single serving or planning to share it at a family gathering.

If you're looking to buy kulolo on Oʻahu, you can visit us in Waiāhole Valley or explore our ordering options before heading to our Windward Mall location. We also offer kulolo through our catering menu for larger occasions.

Here's what to know about our serving options, availability, and ordering process.

How Much Kulolo Should You Order?

The right amount depends on whether you're trying kulolo for the first time, bringing some home, or serving guests.

Our dessert menu lists individual portions and kulolo by the pound when available. Our catering menu also offers smaller, individually portioned pieces for events.

Ordering option Portion Published price
Individual scoop 3 oz $4.80
By the pound 1 lb, when available $17.10
Catering pieces 2 oz each $2.65 per piece

Prices reflect our published menu as of October 9, 2026 and may change. Catering orders have separate advance-notice requirements.

Trying Kulolo for the First Time

An individual scoop is a straightforward choice if you're unfamiliar with this Hawaiian dessert.

Kulolo has a dense, chewy texture that differs from lighter coconut desserts such as haupia. The combination of taro, coconut milk, and sugar gives it a distinctive sweetness.

Our kulolo is steamed for 24 hours, an important part of how we prepare this traditional dessert.

You can order a serving on its own without committing to a larger quantity.

Buying Kulolo by the Pound

If you already enjoy kulolo and want a larger portion to share, our menu lists it by the pound when available.

Buying by the pound can be useful when you're bringing dessert to a small gathering or planning to divide it into servings yourself.

Availability is an important consideration. Although we list pound-sized purchases on our menu, we don't promise that this option will be available for every visit.

For current availability at our original Waiāhole location, call us at (808) 239-2222 before making a special trip.

Ordering Kulolo for a Party or Family Gathering

Kulolo can also be part of a larger Hawaiian food spread. If you're organizing a celebration, our catering menu provides a separate ordering option.

We offer kulolo in 2-ounce catering pieces, making it possible to plan portions based on your guest count.

For example, ordering one piece per guest would mean:

Guests Kulolo pieces
10 10
20 20
40 40
60 60

These are simple planning examples, not required package sizes. The appropriate quantity depends on the other food and desserts being served.

Our catering menu also offers haupia, which gives guests another traditional Hawaiian dessert option.

How Far Ahead Should You Place a Catering Order?

We require a minimum of 48 hours' notice for catering orders and one week's notice for parties of more than 40 people.

Because kulolo requires a full 24-hour steaming process, we encourage you to discuss your desired quantity when arranging your order.

You can review our Hawaiian food catering options and contact us at (808) 239-2222 or waiaholepoi@gmail.com to discuss your event.

Our catering team can help clarify ordering requirements and availability.

Where to Visit Us for Kulolo on Oʻahu

We have two locations in Kāneʻohe on Oʻahu's windward side. If kulolo is the main reason for your visit, contact your preferred location to confirm what's currently available.

Historic Waiāhole Valley Location

Address: 48-140 Kamehameha Hwy, Kāneʻohe, HI 96744

Hours: Wednesday through Monday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Closed Tuesdays.

Phone: (808) 239-2222

Our original location is also where we offer hand-pounded poi and paʻiʻai on scheduled Wednesdays and Sundays, subject to availability. Those products are separate from our kulolo.

If you're planning to purchase kulolo by the pound, we recommend checking availability with our Waiāhole team before visiting.

Our Windward Mall counter offers another convenient way to enjoy our Hawaiian food on Oʻahu. Because menu options can differ between our locations, call ahead to confirm the kulolo serving sizes available at the mall.

You can also visit our website for location information and online ordering.

Want Kulolo with Haupia Ice Cream?

If you're choosing dessert rather than buying a larger amount to take home, our signature Sweet Lady of Waiahole is another option.

We serve warm, house-made kulolo topped with haupia-flavored ice cream. This gives you a different way to experience kulolo, with the dense taro dessert paired with a creamy, cold topping.

Our menu lists single- and double-scoop options.

However, if your goal is to bring kulolo home or serve it at a gathering, ordering plain kulolo may be more appropriate.

See our full dessert menu to compare the available options.

A Few Things to Confirm Before Purchasing

For larger purchases or a visit specifically for kulolo, a quick call can help you plan.

Is kulolo by the pound always available?

Not necessarily. Our published menu specifies that pound-sized portions are offered when available. Check with us before visiting if you're hoping to buy a larger quantity.

Can I order a kulolo for an event?

Yes. Kulolo is listed on our catering menu in individual 2-ounce pieces and by the pound. Contact our catering team to discuss quantities and advance notice.

Can I buy Waiāhole Poi Factory kulolo on Kauaʻi?

Our documented restaurant locations are on Oʻahu, not Kauaʻi. We don't currently have confirmed Kauaʻi retail distribution or shipping information to provide.

Can I bring kulolo on a flight?

Before traveling with kulolo, ask our staff for current storage and packaging guidance. Check applicable airline and agricultural inspection requirements for your destination rather than assuming the product can travel without restrictions.
